Maintaining the beauty and history of this community in perpetuity is the essence of the mission of the JCVIS.

Volunteers are vital, and there are tasks to suit everyone’s interest and talents, from fall and spring clean-ups of parks and commons, to greeting visitors at Melville Academy and dishing out ice cream on the 4th of July. Throughout its more than 100 years, members have organized entertainments, dinners, flea markets and other events to raise funds. Taking the long view, the VIS continues to build funds to provide a solid foundation for the future.

The VIS depends upon, and most heartily thanks, those who generously support the Society with their time, talent and treasure, and it welcomes those in the next generation to step up, get interested in the work of the VIS, and to say “Yes!” when asked to volunteer.

Volunteer opportunities include:

Spring and Fall Clean-ups

Maintenance Projects

Archiving at the Melville Academy Museum

Hosting at Melville Academy Museum (during the summer months)

Planning of Helping at Events

Committee Participation
