The Jaffrey Center Village Improvement Society maintains at private expense Melville Academy Museum, the Horsesheds and 22.5 acres of parks, commons and open space available to the public in the Jaffrey Center Historic District, including scenic views of Mt. Monadnock (the “mountain that stands alone “ in the native Abenaki language). In addition, there are many historic sites to view in Jaffrey Center, including the Old Burying Grounds the 1775 Meetinghouse, Little Red Schoolhouse, First Church, the Monadnock 4 Fire Station and Fire Museum, the Monadnock Inn and a neighborhood of private 18th and 19th century houses worth an architectural sightseeing stroll.
The Melville Academy Museum is open 2pm to 4pm on weekends in July and August and features fascinating exhibits of Jaffrey history. Find directions here.
